The Somers Point Police Dept. Traffic Safety Unit consists of specialized officers that have been trained in various aspects of Traffic safety, accident investigation, New Jersey Title 39(motor vehicle laws) Radar enforcement, construction zone safety and community outreach. These officers have attended various specialized schools and have had hands on training to be effective in making the roadways of Somers Point safer.
The Somers Point Police Dept. is also involved in state traffic safety initiatives to include, Click it or Ticket, Drive Sober or get pulled Over, DWI checkpoints, Pedestrian Safety and other specialized enforcement.
The unit also has at is disposal, a speed detection box, and a speed detection trailer that are both portable and have been placed at various locations throughout the city. We also have two License Plate reader systems attached to two patrol vehicles. These units have been valuable in the detection of unregistered vehicles, unlicensed drivers, suspended drivers and stolen motor vehicles and apprehensions of wanted subjects.
